Lest you think I've been sitting on my laurels lately...I feel as if I have more going on than ever. I've been waiting to post some concrete things, but the silence is killing me, so here's an idea of what you can expect to see in the weeks to come.
New Dover Books
Out about three weeks ago, is my new collection of Classic Fairy Tale imagery called Once Upon A Time; A Treasury of Classic Fairy Tale Illustrations. At A whopping 192 pages, It contains art from 23 different Golden Age illustrators—all the heavy hitters, and some amazing unknowns. It's the biggest project I've done for Dover to date.
We just finished wrapping up work on An Edwardian Bestiary; The Illustration Work of the Brothers Detmold. Chances are good that you don't know the work of Maurice and Edward Detmold, but you may soon. This book far exceeded my own expectations, and it really looks terrific. It should be out shortly after Christmas.
I have two NEW books on the just released Dover list for Spring '09, and I'll elaborate on those in the next post.
TWO shows of work in the next few months
Coming in December at a gallery/studios in New Hampshire, I'll be part of a multi-artist horror-themed show, called "The Dead of Winter", in which I will have five or six original illustration pieces. Still working on their promational material, I'll pass on more formal info when I have it.
For the month of March of '09 I will once again be granted the terrific gallery space in my local public library. Last time I had work there was over three years ago. This show will be called "Oceans of Imagination". Over 25 pieces will be on display, all with the sea as a common element. Pirates, Mermaids, Ocean legends, will all be here, including multiple images created for the show. I haven't been painting this much since the FIT MA program. More on the "Oceans" show soon.
Illustration
I've had a busy year doing pencil interior work. There are four projects out there which I am waiting to be published, so that I can share a few of these with you. As they hit the market, I'll post a sample here. The first of these projects should be a new Role-Playing aid from the good folks at Atlas Games, for Ars Magica Role Playing. Viking wizards...how cool is that?...
Back soon— Jeff
